Dear all,

I haven’t been active on my blog in more than a year, mainly because of a long series of professional and private commitments. I apologize to everyone who posted questions all this time without getting an answer. I will reactive as of now and will check regularly the comments section.

If you do not get an answer within 3 days since posting a question or if it’s really burning, better send me an e-mail: chiara at ectraineeship dot info

Hi Chiara, i find your blog very informative and useful for the applicants and for those who are thinking about applying. These days i’m in the process of filling the application and i would like some advice from you. Can you tell me please some points or catching criteria to mention in my motivation for the preferred employment area like: motivation for the choice and
Why do you consider your profile suitable for this employment area? i have done law and i’m thinking about the legal or external relations areas:) yes very common…
Thanks for the information on the blog!

      Hi Mihaela,

Sorry for the late reply. That’s a tough question because I think it depends on each candidate’s studies, profile, interests, etc. What is it that motivates you to apply for a traineeship? What it is that would make you different from other candidates with the same profile? What are your future prospects? It’s things like these that you have to take into account when motivating and, you know, the internet is full of sources of inspiration. All you have to do it is a bit of research. 😉

      Good luck with your application!

    Hello Chiara,

I find this website to be very informative and nicely done. I have couple pratical questions on you.
    1. How do they select candidates from pre-selected candidates? It´s only depends on if you sent them all neccessary documents in good form or there are any other criterias?

    2. You mentioned that trainees get badge for accessing the building and for discounts in cafeteria. How big this discounts are? For what? What is the average normal price of meal?

    3. How many trainees usually EC has? From how many candidates they are selected.

It would be very nice to hear from you, even if you are not sure about all of them.
    Thank you

    Best regards,

    Michal

      Hi Michal,

I’ll get to the point and answer your questions.

      1. First, if you are pre-selected, you have send in all the documents and these documents have to meet the eligibility conditions, i.e. they have to prove that whatever you declared in the electronic application is true. People who fail to prove will be obviously disqualified. Then, the selection process remains essentially unchanged. The units will look at CVs and contact the potential candidates for interviews. It may also happen that they won’t contact anyone and just proceed to the selection. As I wrote in a post, this practice is different from one DG to another.

      2. I can’t quite remember how much is the discount for a meal (the prices are also adapted annually based on the inflation index). I think the price without discount is around 6 euros (or less, it really depends on the daily menu offer). With a discount, it should be 3 to 4 euros. The meal usually includes a soup and a main dish (meat or fish or vegetarian). There’s different types of dishes that come at different prices. I think this should give you an idea.

      3. I have already covered this topic in a post, but I’ll repeat. There are roughly 650 trainees per session. There are 2 sessions per year, that gives an estimate of 1,300 trainees. The 650 trainees are selected from the pool of pre-selected candidates whose number is also roughly 2,500 – 2,600 per session. These figures may vary slightly from one session to another.

Hope I have answered your questions. :-)

    Hello Chiara
your blog its really helpful. Does the native language (when its not English ,French or German) count as a second language? Also in the education field a major subject is required. I studied Political Science but all subjects were of the same importance. Should i randomly pick one?:p

    • adminchiara:

      Hi Anastasia,

Mother tongue always come first, then the others either English or French or German, then any other languages.

As for the subjects studied, I’m sure some were more important than others… if not… you choose what you think was most important. :-)

    Hello Chiara

I find your blog very helpful! I have a couple of questions I would like to ask.

1)For the Professional Experience section, can this only be official paid work or can this include volunteering , research projects etc.

2)Should I put down work for professional experience if it is not related to working in the EC, i.e part-time work, hospitality etc?

Hi Chiara, I really like your website and the information is very helpful. I have some I am filling in the application form of administrative training and I came across some questions. It will be great if you can give me some suggestions. My questions are :

    1. I am a Master student, but I won’t get my degree until 31st August 2015, should I include this in education? If so, should I write this in ongoing education?

    2. I am interested in both Policies and Scientific Research, but I can only choose one of them. I study Environmental Protection and Management, which of the area will be possible to work relevant to environmental policies or research?
    Thank you very much!
    Vera

    Hi Chiara,

I found your blog indeed informative. Thanks for your kind sharing!

I just wonder how long does it take for the first round of selection at your year? Wanna have some idea when I will probably get news from them for the result of online application.

    Thanks a lot

    Dear Sir/Madam,
I am writing to ask you when are you going to publish pre-selected candidates for the first time on Blue Book? Furthermore, where can I find that Blue Book (data base) and check if I have been pre-selected and am on the list?
    Faithfully,
    Ieva
